  1. There are certain kinds of cervical cancer that are caused by a virus. The vaccine allows your body to produce antibodies against it so that if you have an immunity to it.

  4. It provides you immunity to some strains HPV virus which can cause Cervical Cancer. It only protects against cervical cancer, and only 70% of the time though.

  5. It protects you by preventing you from contracting the strains of HPV most likely to cause cervical cancer. There are many types of HPV and most won’t cause CC, a few strains are more likely to cause CC and are called “high-risk HPV”…these strains usually don’t even end up causing CC but it is the #1 risk factor in the development of cervical cancer. That being said, there are other risk factors too and even if you have NONE of the risk factors, you can still get CC. I am 27 and just got done with months of treatment for CC and I did not have any of the risk factors listed for developing it. I didn’t have obvious symptoms and I am very lucky that I went and had a pap test done when I did because it caught my cancer which was very aggressive, while it was still at a curable stage.

Even if you get the CC Vaccine, pleaseeeeeeeeee continue to get pap tests. They can sometimes detect the precancerous changes which occur way before the cancer itself. Not always, but often it will be caught before developing into cancer. I was not so fortunate because it was so aggressive and also a type which may not have shown up until it got really bad.

And just FYI, about 3/4 of people will contract HPV in their lifetime and theres no cure for it, once you have it, its there. It can lay dormant then show up 50 years later or whenever it wants to. Most of the time though it causes no symptoms. Also men cannot be tested for it but women can, so you should be checked for it. Also you don’t have to have intercourse to contract HPV.
